The CV verification or screening process investigates all data you may share in your CV or during the interview with the company.
Thousands of times have we heard or read that we should not lie on the curriculum, but, although it may seem obvious, people sometimes inflate or exaggerate some facts: charges that were not performed, dates are extended to cover unemployment periods, courses that aren't finished or languages that we don't speak, are some of the data that tend to suffer "small modifications". This practice still happens because there are still people who believe this data is not checked and that can be justified or covered in the interview so it will not be relevant to get the job offered.
CV Verification or Screening process:
What people usually do not know is that there is a curriculum verification or screening process. In this process the hiring Company, or the subcontracted companies, verify all the information provided by the candidate, in according with the local laws. In fact the Company must receive a full authorization from the candidate in order to start this process. After that, the whole candidate's employment history (dates, positions, etc.) is checked.
In order to do this, it is usual to contact the candidate's former co-workers or managers and the academic background is also checked and official qualifications can be requested. When it comes to language levels, the hiring Company usually asks the candidate to do an objective test for determining the candidate's actual level. In addition, the personal data provided in the CV is also verified: name, date of birth, ID number, address, etc.
What happens in the Luxury field?
Sometimes the screenings could be more thorough if the position to cover requires it. In that case the company can get to investigate issues such as police records or legal problems that the candidate may have had or personal and family circumstances, always within the limits authorized by the law of that country and respecting the individual rights of the applicant. This process is essential for many businesses, especially when it comes to executive or management positions that will be the public face of the company and can influence in the public opinion of the company and its business interests.
But this is not only checked in executive positions. Increasingly, companies conduct such verifications for all candidates. This practice is very common because of the item's value and the business numbers handled at the stores in the retail world and in the luxury industry, especially. Thus, to a luxury jewelry, for example, will be essential to check the candidate's criminal record to prevent internal theft and thousands of losses.
After finishing this verification process, the candidate is entitled to request information about the results. In addition, if the screening raises questions to the company it may hold a meeting with the candidate to clarify any doubts and give the applicant the opportunity to defend their worth for the position. In this sense, companies always work with a transparency and mutual respect policy with their candidates, so they are informed throughout the process.
Therefore, it is not only advisable to not inflate or lie on the resume, it is essential as it is always better to be sincere and honest with companies from the outset than to be caught in a lie that will stain our reputation.
